Flag washing instructions

Instructions on the treatment and washing of flags and banners

A) TREATMENT

  1. Vertical flags, hanging flags and banners should be raised in such a way that they can blow out freely and do not knock against walls, trees or wires.
  2. In addition, hanging flags and banners should be provided with a ring cord attachment or wind protection securing device.
  3. Wet flags and banners must not be kept folded as colour copies or mildew stains may occur.
  4. In principle, washing should be done early enough in order to prevent the flag from getting too soiled. Only in this case a satisfactory washing result can be expected and achieved.
  5. Any damage to the fabric should be repaired as quickly as possible. In this way the service life/durability will be extended considerably.

B) PREPARATION AND WASHING

  1. Metal parts, e.g. snap hooks or swivels, should be removed in order to prevent any damage being caused.
  2. As the greater part of our product range (national and advertising flags, as well as advertising banners) is manufactured exclusively from basic materials made of 100 % proprietary polyester (perMARIN-N and tricoflagg), washing of both qualities can be carried out under a uniform procedure.
  3. The washing process can be carried out in a normal household washing machine using proprietary detergents for synthetic fibres in a hot wash cycle (60°C). In the case of heavily soiled parts, the cleaning process can be additionally reinforced by the application of soft soap and slight rubbing. Softened water promotes the washing process. Bleaching agents must not be added to the water.
  4. After the washing process, the cleaned material must be rinsed intensively while being kept in constant movement in a bath of clear water. After the rinsing process, the fabric being washed should not be kept folded in a wet state in order to avoid the formation of mildew stains.

C) DRYING AND IRONING

  1. The material can be dried by spinning slightly and then drying in the open air in a spread out state. However, the flags can also be raised on the flag pole again in a dripping wet state.
  2. It is not necessary to iron flags and advertising banners for outdoor use. However, if flags are to be used for indoor decoration they can be ironed making sure to use the appropriate heat setting.

D) MISCELLANEOUS

  1. No guarantee can be given with respect to colour fastness for the cleaning of flags and advertising banners in dry cleaning establishment or using a benzene bath, as the solvents used do not always allow a correct treatment.
